Foreword

Change is a law of nature. About a hundred years back, nobody wished to be a part of Cinema but now everybody wants to take part in it wholeheartedly. What a miraculous trend in society! A movie is a mirror of society and gives a touch to the existing burning problems. Cinema is not only a source of entertainment but also presents our true culture, civilization, rural and urban lifestyle and changes of the past and the present. Bollywood is the industry which has created the direct relation between the audience and the happenings of the prevailing society. It is the largest film producing centre in which the artists of the whole world are anxious to participate. Actually, our Indian Cinema started from Lahore, then films were sent to Calcutta (Kolkata) for modification and giving a refined look. Ultimately, the film industry was shifted to Bombay (Mumbai) because this was the good business market. Since its origin in the year 1898, our cinema has seen unlimited changes in the fields of direction, acting, cast (male and female), choreography, photography, dance, music, lyrics and songs. The present book will help to establish the relationship between the history and day to day knowledge of Cinema. It contains eight chapters about the history of Bollywood, selected facts of Indian Cinema, year and decade wise best films, Dada Phalke awarded personalities, classifications of films, the topmost directors and music composers. A cinegoer or lover of movies is ever keen to get the latest knowledge of their beloved stars, directors, choicest films, music and songs. And the present book is an effort to fulfill their queries about Cinema. The writer does not claim it to be encyclopedia on Indian Movies but the process is on to give information to the readers.
