The present volume is dedicated to the late Professor Ram Mohan Sinha, an eminent historian.
It is a distinct pleasure and a proud privilege to record my deep sense of gratitude to the contributors for their scholarly and learned papers on various aspects of Indian History.
As far as possible the papers have been placed in chronological order. A few sidelines have been gleaned from each and every paper in the editorial note. The responsibility of references and views expressed, rests entirely with the authors. However, I alone bear the responsibility for the shortcomings in the volume.
I owe my gratitude to Professor Amareshwar Avasthi for providing a note on the scholarly bent of mind of Professor Sinha. I take this opportunity of offering my thanks to those who rendered me every possible help in the preparation of this volume.
