Raspberry-Radiance Phiran from Kashmir with Zari Embroidery on Neck and Borders

$75

A pheran or phiran is a traditional loose fitted Kashmiri garment worn by both men and women to protect themselves from peak winters. Traditionally it was long enough to extend up to the feet, but with modernization, it has also been taken over in a fashionable style, having its length till the knees, side slits and clubbed with a salwar or jeans as the lower garment. The one you see here is a modern style woven in a pure woollen fabric and a slightly loose fit to allow women to carry kangri (an earthen pot filled with burning coals) inside the pheran for warmth.

A female phiran outfit is identified by woven floral patterns on the outfit. Just as the one shown here has a striking raspberry base colour and is embellished with a large patch of zari embroidery on the neck, forming an outer leaf-like pattern and densely filled with artistic designs of flowers, paisleys and leaves having tinges of multicoloured thread embroidered fillings. To maintain a balanced look thin zari embroidery is also done along the borderline, hem of sleeves and the stylized neck cut. This pure wool phiran is also identified by the name loch. The radiant beauty of silver zari over magenta is a combination worth going for. Not only it protects from the chilling winters, but also its charming colour combination and superfine zari embroidery give an enthralling and modernized look to it.
