Superimposed on the fabric is a network of embroidery, layered thickly along the border and the endpiece and in miniscule booties across the field. Green-coloured paisleys, yellow temple arches, and bitone blooms have been embroidered on such a scale with superb symmetry and attention to detail. This technique, called kantha, is a specialty of rural Bengal and is done painstakingly by hand. The luxuriantly embroidered endpiece is the most statement-making aspect of this silk saree.
