Rahula is a wrathful protector deity in the Nyingma school of Himalayan Buddhism, with nine ferocious faces layered one on top of the other and a huge gaping face on his body. Rahula is depicted in this Nepalese figure made with copper on a plinth adorned with tassels and laced with skulls. His dynamically positioned torso is surrounded by a blazing aureole, which further adds to the icon's ethereal aspect. Rahula in this statue calms and astonishes the viewer with his skills while carrying many weapons that quell the forces of evil.
