Lord Nataraja, who is the cosmic dancer, epitomises the eternal rhythm and harmony of the universe. In this sculpture, Lord Nataraja is standing in the Vitarka Mudra (gesture of debate), symbolising the flow of wisdom and his front left hand across the chest is in “Gajahasta pose”, signifying the path of salvation. Encircled with a Kitimukha throne (face of glory), Lord Nataraja elegantly performs the cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and destruction. His matted hair, adorned with serpents, whirls in the cosmic wind, representing the never-ending cycle of life and death. Lord Nataraja is holding a damaru, the primordial sound of the universe, in his upper right hand. While the sacred flame of destruction is represented by his upper left hand. The way to enlightenment is illuminated by Lord Nataraja’s rhythmic motions as He dances upon Apasmara (the demon of ignorance).
Sculpted from brass, this amazing piece of art with inlay work is enhancing the divine presence of Lord Nataraja. This sculpture is the ideal representation of heavenly force, cosmic harmony, and artistic excellence.
