This stone sculpture, specially crafted by the sculptors of Mahabalipuram, is a homage to the sacred feminine energy, the Shakti, also known as Kundalini. The Kundalini is believed to be located at the base of the spine in the Muladhara. It is generally depicted as a Serpent sitting with full grace with half of its body coiled in a sitting position. The upright head signifies the elevated or energized concentration that leads to enlightenment. The Mahabalipuram stone sculptors hold historical significance, and this statue is a testament to the hard work and skill of the sculptors.
