Embodiment of Compassion and Enlightenment

This exquisite brass statue captures the serene presence of Green Tara, a revered deity in Tibetan Buddhism, symbolizing enlightened activity and swift compassion. She is depicted in her iconic posture, seated in the lotus position on a beautifully ornamented base, with her right leg extended, signifying readiness to arise and act in the world. Her gentle, serene countenance, with eyes closed in meditation, radiates a profound sense of peace and inner wisdom. The intricate detailing of her ornate crown, cascading necklaces, and intricately carved robes speaks to the masterful craftsmanship employed in its creation, imbuing the statue with a sense of divine grace and ancient artistry.

The Legend of Tara's Emergence

The origin of Tara is steeped in legend, often recounted as a compassionate Bodhisattva who, moved by the suffering of sentient beings, vowed to take rebirth in female form to help them achieve enlightenment. It is said that she wept tears of compassion, and from a lake formed by her tears, the Green Tara arose, ready to offer her aid. Her green complexion signifies her active, dynamic nature, embodying the energy of accomplishment and the fulfillment of wishes. The two lotuses blooming beside her are symbolic; the one on her left, closed and bud-like, represents the past, while the one on her right, fully open, symbolizes the present, signifying her constant presence and the immediate nature of her help.

Symbolism and Practice

Green Tara is a manifestation of Amitabha Buddha and is often invoked for protection, for the removal of obstacles, and for the granting of blessings and favorable outcomes. Her right hand, resting on her right knee in the gesture of *varada mudra* (gift-granting), extends outwards, offering solace and fulfilling wishes. Her left hand, at her heart, holds the stem of a lotus, symbolizing her purity and her ability to overcome defilements. The statues of Green Tara are not merely decorative objects but are powerful aids in meditation and devotion, serving as focal points for practitioners seeking her protection, guidance, and blessings. This brass representation, with its verdigris patina adding an ancient aura, serves as a tangible link to these profound spiritual traditions and the boundless compassion of the divine feminine.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
