Lord Vishnu is revered as one of the main gods in Hindu pantheon who protects the earth and preserves the life on it. He is said to have incarnated on the planet many times and in various manifestations as a guardian, protector and a preserver of the world. Vishnu’s iconography portrays him as having a blue skin, four arms and dressed with extensive jewellery. The sculpture shown here, differs a bit in the skin color, keeping the rest same. White is the color of purity and truth which aptly justifies lord Vishnu’s benevolent nature.
This statue is sculpted out of a single piece of pure white marble and chiselled in accurate cuts and curves. Lord Vishnu is ornated with lavish jewels in gold and stone studded. He stands here generously on a rectangular pedestal dressed up in a light-yellow dhoti, peach kamarband and a bright contrasting green stole that hangs down his shoulders; golden and red borders on his every attire outlines the beauty of his garb.
Chaturbhuja stands in Abhaya and the left anterior hand holds a mace, while the other two rear hands carry a conch and chakra respectively. The stone studded marvellous crown topped with a stylized peacock feather adorns beauteously on his bright golden hairs. The charming and soothing expression of his eyes, red smiling lips and the Vaishnava tilak glorified on his forehead highlight the professional skills of the sculptor.
How to clean and maintain marble statues?
Marble has been a preferred material for sculptors and artists for more than a thousand years. It is a rock that undergoes metamorphism which causes recrystallization of the original carbonate mineral grains. Marble comes in various colors, designs, and dimensions. Pure white marble is the most preferred type of marble for making sculptures and statues since time immemorial. White marble is especially used for sculpting stone monumental sculptures since ancient times. The natural shine and luster of the carbonate crystals of white marble give a lavish and beautiful appearance to the statue.
Marble stone statues are highly durable and can even withstand harsh weather conditions without getting corroded, therefore, they can be kept indoors or outdoors without getting damaged or weathered. Although these statues can last for many decades, their regular care and cleaning are essential to increase their longevity and beautiful appearance.
Marble statues need periodical cleaning to maintain their flawless look. However, harsh and deep cleaning can result in making the statue look dull. If your marble statue is withering away, it is recommended to take the help of a professional cleaner. Marble is a delicate material and therefore needs proper care.
