The Moreshwar or Mayureshwar form of Lord Ganesha is worshipped in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra. There is also a shrine dedicated to this form. The legends have its Lord Ganesha rode a Mayura or peacock to slay the demon, Sindhu. Since then, his Mayureshwar form is worshipped with him either sitting on a peacock or with two peacocks on both sides. This brass lamp with two peacocks holding a branch and a lamp suspended between them with a Ganesha crown is a homage to the Mayureshwar image of Lord Ganesha. The lamp is full of ritualistic symbolism. There is a depiction of growth in the branches of the tree and the peacock is a symbol of grace. Lord Ganesha is a patron of Shubh or auspiciousness.
