This copper statue of the Bodhisattva Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshwara, manifests pure compassion and is considered the most venerated figure in Vajrayana Buddhism. The image depicts Chenrezig as shown in traditional iconography, sitting on a lotus seat and holding the wish-fulfilling jewel, or Chintamani, in his primary hands that are clasped in front of his chest. He has a lotus flower and rosary in his secondary hands.
The statue exudes a wonderful youthful aspect that is accentuated by the smooth silk clothes that sway on each side of Chenrezig and the exquisite ornaments that adorn him. Identified by the gazelle skin on his shoulder, Chenrezig or Avalokiteshwara is a benevolent guardian for his devotees.
