This superb 5-foot large granite statue of Saint Thiruvallavur, the flagbearer of Tamil literary heritage, is inspired by the majestic sculpture of the saint located on the island of Kanyakumari.
Dressed in saintly garbs, his hair tied in a bent hairdo, Thiruvallvur holds the first chapter of his work, Thirukural or Kural in his hand, representing virtue. The statue of the saint is an embodiment of riches and love.
Gazing ahead, the saint holds his three fingers together, which stand for “Aram”, “Porul”, “Inbam” (virtue, riches, and love). This statue of the ancient Tamil saint thus has a profound meaning- “wealth and love in life can be gained only by leading a virtuous life”.
