Shiva is Adideva, the primordial Lord with no beginning or end, and what better material to represent the eternal, omnipresent power of Shiva than the formidable granite?
The iconography of Shiva in this 5-foot large granite artwork is inspired by his sacred sanctums, adorned with elaborate Jatabhara (hairdo with ornaments), with tresses flowing to frame his face.
Earrings, necklaces, Yajnopavita, waist belts, armlets, and bracelets exquisitely ornament the Lord. He wears a short dhoti, with precise lines to delineate the fall of its tassels on each side, adding naturalism to the stone.
Standing in a graceful contrapposto, Shiva holds a trident, drum, and Abhaya and Varada mudra, in this “Saumya” or benevolent image, standing in front of which allows one to experience an endless Darshana of Mahadeva.
