The image of Devi Sarasvati, seated on a padma or lotus. Limbs in lalitasana; a slender, long-necked veena cradled on Her lap. Fair hands strumming at its strings and playing on its belly. A wide-set brow like the wings of a soaring albatross. Cascading black curls from under Her crown to match.
Devi Sarasvati is the presiding deity over learning and the fine arts. The murti of Her that you see on this page depicts Her in all Her ethereal beauty. It is a longline composition, half of which comprises plinth and throne. A roseate colour characterises Her majorly naked complexion, the same as the layered petals of the lotus beneath Her.
A dhoti of green silk and hints of blue along the body of the veena. More traditional jewel tones along the Devi’s crown. The colours introduced into the composition are somewhat washed out and deeply textured, owing to the nature of the organic wood medium.
