The Vedic evocation of the goddess of fortune and fertility- Sri, mentions her as the bestower of wealth of money and field.
Her powers are embodied in the goddess’s aspects as Sridevi or Lakshmi and Bhudevi (earth goddess)- the wives of Sri Vishnu.
Sculpted following the ancient texts of sacred iconography, this pair of granite statues present the goddess as youthful and feminine, standing in the Tribhanga pose, their hands in Lolahasta mudra, with a flower in their hands.
Though appearing the same, the twin goddesses are differentiated by fine attributes. As the chief consort of Vishnu, Sridevi or Lakshmi wears a jeweled Kuchabandha or breast band while Bhudevi is unadorned on her torso. Lakshmi holds a bloomed lotus flower, while Bhudevi carries a flower bud. Manifestations of the wealth and auspiciousness of the three realms, Sridevi and Bhudevi in these statues make any space feel like the abode of Vishnu.
