Pilliyar- the dotting child of Shiva and Parvati reigns over the imagination of Tamil Sthapatis, where his different forms are expressed with devotion and aesthetic richness. This enthralling Panchaloha statue of Ganesha envisions him in a mesmerizing dancing posture, in which he is known as Nritya Ganapati or Narthan Vinayakara. With his left leg balancing the weight of his mammoth form, Ganesha throws his head back in a burst of bliss, and extends his four arms in splendid positions, to create a dynamism beyond words in this Panchaloha.

His mountainous head is adorned with a Karandamukuta crown, his forehead is marked with a bloomed lotus symbolising supreme wisdom, his swinging trunk in which he wraps the pot of auspiciousness or Purnaghata is decorated with a bell. In his four hands, Sri Ganesha holds Paasha (noose), Ankusha (goad), broken tusk, and Modaka.

A characteristic feature of all Ganesha idols, his pot belly, is beautifully delineated in this statue, and embellished with a jeweled belt and Naagabhushana (serpent ornament), with tassels swaying around his waist, adding to the movement of the composition. The legendary realism of Panchaloha artworks can be highlighted in the plump and stout legs of Ganesha, whose musculature is meticulously presented by the sculptors.

The icon rests upon a two-tiered pedestal, the primary one an inverted lotus and the secondary a two layered platform, marked with floral etchings, lotus petals, and Makara motif. With handles on each side, this statue is an Utsava-murti or a processional image, residing in which, Nritya Ganapati dances with and within his devotees.
