Goddess Saraswati- the Hindu deity of wisdom, arts, and creativity has been a muse and revered figure for artists, for centuries. Her sculptures are often found on South Indian temple shrines, nestled in between divine images, as the tutelary goddess of the sculptors who make the divine structures. Inspired by the temple sculptures of Saraswati, this wooden statue depicts the great goddess in her characteristic form- Chaturbhuja (four-armed), Padmasana (seated on Padma or lotus), and holding her Veena, rosary, and Veda (symbols of learning and creativity). The woodwork has been beautifully sculpted to represent the aura of Devi Saraswati, surrounded by a splendid Kirtimukha aureole, with hints of soft colors that give the composition an aesthetic antiquated finish.
