They belong to a well-heeled Gujarati farming family. He is wearing the traditional balloon-trousers of the menfolk, with a flowing long-sleeved shirt. Made from pure homegrown cotton, such an attire is best suited to the warm, temperate climate of the region. On his head is a bright yellow turban and a chunky silver coil around his neck, a popular item of jewellery with the men. The close-fitted jooties and the imposing moustache complete the image of the patriarch.
His wife is clad in a dark green saree dyed bandhani style, a fashionable tie-dye method perfected in the region. She has drawn the endpiece of her saree over her head in the presence of her husband, from beneath which one could make out the ample gold on her person.
