“Pinal-Nagam”- the stone carved sculptures of intertwining Naga or serpents are a common sacred iconography of temples in Southern India.
Rising above, the serpents are symbols of rebirth and regeneration, powers for which Nagas have been revered in India since ancient times.
Within the frame formed by the meeting of the two Nagas lies the Shiva-Lingam, the most powerful image of Shiva, also known as Nageshwara (Lord of Nagas).
As the bestowers of longevity, hidden wisdom treasures, and spiritual awakening, Shiva and Nagas are inseparable symbols of the Jaagaran or enlightenment of Kundalini energy.
