Fulfilling the original purpose of Buddhist art- representing the life and virtues of the Buddha, these five gilded copper Nepalese statues of Buddha depict five prominent aspects of Tathagata. Buddha has a heavily patterned robe, aureole, and distinctive attributes in all five statues which present him in Dhyana mudra (meditating), Bhumisparsha mudra, Dhammachakra pravartana mudra (turning the wheel of law), Varada mudra (giving boon), and Abhaya mudra (dispelling fear), and all of these aspects are replicated on the aureole behind the gilded statues.
