The mighty protector of Deva (gods), humans, and all other living beings of the Universe, Devi Durga appears in this majestic brass statue with a tranquil aura, sitting in the auspicious Lalitasana on her mount lion, in a powerful Ashtabhuja or eight-armed roopa, which the goddess takes to fight off the forces of evil. A beautiful Shirasachakra behind her royal crown marks the goddess’s aura, which is beautified by lovely ornaments and an ornately delineated saree.
The roundly sculpted statue of goddess Durga is placed on an ovular lotus pedestal, to separate Devi’s sacred space from the rest of the world. Smiling benevolently, with a lotus in one hand and the other raised in the gesture of removing fears, Devi Durga in this roopa is Durgatinashini- the annihilator of negativity.
