Evoked as Shivakami or Shivakamasundari- “she who brings desire in Shiva”, this aspect of Uma-Parvati is popularized by the bronze icons of the Chola period, a marvelous depiction of all that is beautiful in female form. This brass statue is a representation of the grace and splendor of Uma, who is the most beautiful female in three realms.
Standing in an elegant pose, Devi Parvati wears an elongated crown, earrings, necklaces, Yajnopavita, armlets, bracelets, and a silken dhoti (lower body garment) whose details are beautifully delineated in metal with incised lines. On the reverse, the Siraschakra (circular ornament on head, halo), tresses of Uma, and details of dhoti’s fine folds suggest a precision in sculpting, making this small statue a classic representation of the exquisiteness of Uma.
