Siddhartha Gautama, later known as Lord Shakyamuni, was originally born as the crown prince of the revered Shakya Kingdom, where his royal upbringing was designed to prepare him for future kingship, fulfilling his father's aspirations.
In a pivotal moment, Shakyamuni's right hand gracefully extended to make contact with the Earth, symbolizing the instant when he summoned the Earth to bear witness to his transcendence of the dominion of Mara, the supreme deity of the worldly realm. Mara had persistently attempted to divert Siddhartha from his profound meditation. In a resounding response, the Earth quivered and shook, bearing testimony to Shakyamuni's ultimate attainment of Buddhahood. Meanwhile, his left hand gently rested in his lap, depicting the meditation gesture, while cradling his alms bowl.
