Ashtabhuja or eight-armed Varahi, is the aspect of the boar-faced Matrika or mother-goddess, as the Shakti of Vishnu-Varaha and the leader of Durga’s army.
Goddess Varahi in this bronze statue sits in the regal Lalitasana pose, with her dangling leg placed on a lotus flower- a symbol of the Universe, which is protected by the mother-goddess.
Shankha and Chakra are distinctly visible in Devi Varahi’s hands in Kartatrihasta or a scissor-like gesture of Vishnu associated with Varahi to the Hindu preserver god.
In her other hands, Varahi holds a goad, plow, noose, and stalk, along with Abhaya and Varada mudra, in an attitude similar to goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Vishnu, as whose emanation Devi Varahi is worshipped, evoked as “Narayani”.
