In the shape of a calm, compassionate being, Chenrezig is kind and majestic, he is dressed in a bodhisattva robe. The mantra, "Om Mani Padme Hum" embodies Cherezig's spirit and reflects the realization of each person's innate capacity for enlightenment or the "jewel within the lotus."
The four hands that Chenrezig is shown within Tibetan Buddhism each have significant symbolic meaning. His two front hands are clasped together in front of his jewel-encrusted heart, signifying compassion and devotion. The prayer beads, or Akshmala, in the right hand, represent chanting mantras and practicing meditation. A lotus blossom, representing enlightenment and purity, is held in the left hand. This picture of Chenrezig illustrates his various qualities, including wisdom, compassion, and the ability to grant earnest requests to devotees.
