This painting narrates an incident from Guru Nanak's adolescent years. He used to take cattle out to graze and one day as he lay under a shady tree, the hot rays of the sun began to fall on his face. Suddenly a large cobra appeared and spread its wide hood over Nanak's head in the form of an umbrella, protecting his face from the scorching rays of the midday sun. In this painting we see Nanak sleeping unaware of the dangerous cobra. Around him can be seen Rai Bular, chief of the area, who happened to pass that way on his horse. He was amongst the first few to recognise Nanak's greatness. A farmer and Rai Bular's escort gape at the sight, wonderstruck.
The background is predominantly green with a darker shade dotting the landscape.
