The powerful and destructive Lord Shiva is in a quiet, gathered stance. Seated amidst the mountains that are His home, His legs are gathered in the ardha-padmasana or veerasana upon the tiger-skin mat that is yet textured with life. One of His arms rests on the danda that serves to keep the spine and skull erect. His body is adorned with the presence of a snake and a plethora of rudraksha. From the coils of His ample tresses emerges the Ganga in all Her fluid beauty. The matchless beauty of the Himalayas has been conveyed in simple detail within the composition - rugged peaks, pristine form, and the surrounding emptiness. Such indeed is the form of Lord Shiva, conveyed skilfully in a bitone palette of inky blue and tinted white. The gaze of His unshut eyes is one of fierce determination and all-encompassing contemplation. Note the minimalist detail and the characteristic layering of the colour in this composition, which are atypical of Indian batik paintings.
