The Primordial Buddha, or Vajrasattva, is a celestial being who represents the highest level of enlightenment and primordial purity. Often portrayed as a brilliant, white deity, she represents pristine awareness and the inherent wisdom of enlightened consciousness. "Vajrasattva" is a combination of the terms "vajra," which means indestructibility, and "sattva," which means essence or existence.
With his hands holding the sacred vajra, bell, and purification vase, Vajrasattva embodies the harmonious union of wisdom and compassion. Within Buddhist practice, Vajrasattva is a potent emblem of karmic clearing and purification. Vajrasattva is important because it is based on the idea that everyone can become enlightened and that by practicing Vajrasattva, one can reveal and become their ancient wisdom.
