“Mahakalanamo”, in Tibetan tradition Mahakala translates to the great dark one and namo represents his glory. A Wrathful Buddhist deity, Mahakala is said to be an avatar of Vajradhara Buddha. The ruler of time, he is the Dharamapala-protector of the Dharma. Adorned in skull jewelry, he’s fearsome in the look of his eyes and facial that are scorching flames. He holds a Kapala, Kartari, Mundamala, and Trishula standing upright on an elephant, appearing from the sacred fire. As terrifying as he appears, he’s a deity of compassion in essence.
