From the palm of the benevolent Sai Baba, the word “Shanti”, which means peace, glows effervescent. Wearing a red kafani, he sits on a throne that befits his saintliness, offerings of fruit and a diya lying in front of him. Throughout his life, he performed many miracles that would lead the people to believe in him—he who believed that there was only one god who looked over everyone. He always helped the poor and the needy and never turned away those who knocked on his door asking for help.
Once, a certain Rao Bahadur Moreshwar Fradhan and his wife came to see Baba in Shirdi. As they started to leave, it began pouring cats and dogs. Thunder shook the sky and lightning cracked through the clouds. The couple was distressed and looked to Baba for help. He looked upon the heavens and prayed for the rain to stop so that they could return home safely. Just as he said that the rain ceased fully. The couple could find a safe passage to their home. Even now, decades and decades later, when people visit Shirdi for Sai Baba’s darshan, they report miracles happening in their lives after the visitation. It is as if he still walks among the people.
