An illustration that is found in every home, kept lovingly and adulated daily, is the Ram Darbar. It is a joyous occasion when everyone is reunited after the slaying of demon king Ravana and the world is set to its rightful order. Lord Ram sits on a golden throne in all his divine glory, Devi Sita sitting alongside him as his perfect companion. His brother, Lakshman, who gave up all greed and illusion to accompany him on his vanavas, stands near him. His other two brothers, Bharat and Shatrughan stand beside his throne as well.
In an act of utter devotion, Lord Hanuman sits near the feet of Lord Rama, holding them up so they don’t sully themselves by touching the ground. Behind them, blessings are being bestowed upon them by Saptarishis, congratulating them on their return to Ayodhya. One of them is holding the royal umbrella above the Lord. Narad Muni, being a fervent follower of Lord Narayan, also attends the ceremony, celebrating Narayana’s incarnation. Several other attendees are there, for example, Jambhavan, Lord Hanuman’s close friend. Vibhishana, court ministers and other local kings are also present for the ceremony. This fateful evening is embedded in gold eternally in this painting, painting Ramayana in all its glory.
