Wearing blue, the color of Shyam, Radha sits on a rock with a bunch of peacock feathers in her hand. The feathers are present in the oil painting as a symbol of Sri Krishna, who tucks them in his headgear. Radha has a somber expression on her face, which is probably a result of Krishna’s absence. Several Bhakti texts describe Radha’s pain when Krishna left for Mathura. Giving up all joys of life, Radha lived her days with a broken heart, a glimpse of which is given in this painting.
