Standing on a lotus spread, the blue bodied Krishna wears the usual pitamber (yellow) dhoti. His left leg crosses over to the right, bent at the knee. Dressed simply yet wearing the best of ornaments from head to toe, he plays the flute. A woman attendant dressed in skirt and a short choli with a diaphanous odhini covering her head, whisks a cloth fan. Krishna, even while playing the flute, gets distracted, senses Radha's presence and looks across his shoulder. Radha dressed in a white and gold ghagra and a red odhini looks resplendent in numerous ornaments. She holds the edge of her odhini with one hand and in the other she holds a garland she wants to put around Krishna's neck.
The background is systematically divided into earth, water and sky. The earth consists of foliage and flowering plants. Lake is the water body with floating lotus flowers and leaves. Various shades of the blue sky have moving patches of white clouds.
