Soothing colors, lotuses blooming in the foreground, and a hint of clouds in the horizon create a fitting background for an ode to the young Krishna’s warmth toward his Gau-mata, in remembrance of which the Pushtimargis celebrate the festival of Gopashtami. As a Pichwai made for a special occasion, Gopashtami Pichwai follows the tradition of delineating Srinathji in his usual Govardhan-giri-dhari pose, attired like a regal prince. Around him are his cattle folk, beautified with lovely palm impressions of Krishna and golden bells on their necks. Two peacocks frolicking in the foreground appreciate the roopa of Srinathji, as representatives of worldly beauty which is merely an attendant, an admirer of Krishna in the divine court of Nathdwara.
