While the yantra has been conceptualised and designed by ancient tantric sages as functional tools to open spiritual doors for the soul, some iconographies have evolved to fulfill highly specific, often more down-to-earth pursuits. The Neelkantha Nagpash Chakra is one of them, a single powerful charkra as opposed to more traditional yantras composed of multiple chakras each with its own significance. Thick snakeskin-embossed curves rest convolute around the sacred chants that constitute the centre of the painting, while the tongue-lashing head and the slender tail that emerge on the top right section give away the form of a snake. This simple yet powerful yantra is flanked by soorya (the sun) and chandrama (the waned moon) on either side on the top of the fine copper sheet it is fashioned on.
