The term Satyanarayana means the one who is the Eternal or Absolute Truth (Lord Vishnu or Krishna). In order to get the mercy of Lord Vishnu, Vaishnavas take vows and perform Satyanarayana puja. This helps them purify their senses and consciousness so that they are able to do bhakti without any material desires or without any sense of gratification.
This mesmerizing and at the same time propitious Tanjore painting is full of vibrant traditional colors which looks stunning. It depicts two devotees (husband and wife) of Lord Vishnu hearing the Satyanarayana Katha with full faith and devotion. They humbly hold their hands as the priest (Brahman) recites the Katha. They have offered some offerings such as fruits and flowers as a sacrifice to the Lord. Both the husband and wife hear the Katha with such a devotion that Bhagawan Vishnu along with the great sage Narada Muni appear in front of them. The Lord in His four-handed form stands bearing a pleasant smile on His moonlike face. His body complexion resembles the color of the fresh monsoon clouds. Upon seeing the bhakti of His bhaktas, the Lord became very pleased. Thus, whoever executes pure devotional service unto the lotus feet of the Lord, receives His mercy and goes back to Godhead which is the ultimate goal of human life. Wherever there is glorification of Lord Vishnu, there is Vaikuntha (the place of no miseries).
