A miniature shrine of Sri Ranganatha Swamy Vishnu, this Tanjore painting depicts the Vaikuntha or abode of Vishnu in a limited space.
The central image is reclining Vishnu, dark-skinned, regally adorned, lying in Adishesha’s coils, a form revered as Ranganatha Swamy.
The coils of Shesha and his alert hoods are beautifed by 22 karat gold, adding a heavenliness to Vishnu’s aura.
In the foreground are Sridevi (Lakshmi) and Bhudevi (goddess earth), the twin wives of Vishnu seated on regal thrones, accompanying Chaturbhuja or four-armed form of the Lord, surrounded by a miniature but detailed Kirtimukha prabhavali.
On the upper section are the sacred Vaishnava symbols- Shankha, Chakra, and Tilaka, revered by Garuda and Hanuman. A lamp hanging from the right side of the painting fills the Tanjore with a devotional ambiance.
