Navaneetha Krishna is the child-like incarnation of Lord Krishna, also known as Bal Gopal. By taking this form and appearing in front of the Brijvasis as a regular child, he shows how God is omnipresent, especially in children. He is the perfect child, the epitome of innocence and mischief. It is a custom in some areas to gift an idol of Navaneetha Krishna to a woman who is expecting.
Clothed in pitambara, Lord Krishna sits on a raised dais, looking guilelessly towards his devotees. Yellow is the colour of spring, a season that is connected with an abundance of fertility and joy. On either side of him, a gopi stands holding a piece of butter, Bal Gopal’s favourite, up to him as an offering. One of them holds a beautiful peacock in her hand, a symbol of patience, empathy and kindness. Below them all, there is a small plant of tulsi, flanked by two cows and two deers. Across the countries, cows are worshipped as an emblem of divinity. They are gentle, motherly and are always associated with Krishna, as evident by his name Gopal. The presence of the deers marks the Supreme Lord as a divine herdsman, always keeping his loyal subjects protected from all harm.
