Although Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He appeared on the earth in Dwapara Yuga as an ordinary child to attract everyone towards bhakti and engage His devotees in His transcendental pastimes. All the residents of Vrindavan loved Him with all their hearts and Krishna, who is the source of all pleasures, gave them the highest form of pleasure and happiness in return. They were unaware of the fact that He is the Supreme Lord, and sometimes, His uncommon and extraordinary activities astonished everyone.
Tanjore paintings are famous for their special depictions of devotional icons and among them, Lord Krishna’s icon receives the most love. Here, Lord Krishna has been portrayed in His childhood form which is called “Navneet form”. He is seated on the coils of the divine Ananta Shesha or Shesha Naag that forms a huge canopy above the Lord’s head with its multiple hoods, giving Him all the protection. He is bedecked with several ornaments and adorned with a flower garland around His delicate shoulders and a peacock feather on His head. He very innocently holds His right leg with both of His hands and brings it towards His mouth in order to suck it. Activities of Krishna like this made Him even more attractive and lovable for all the residents of Vraja. Also, this painting has been embellished with pure gold (24 Karat) and studded with red and green stones to enhance its aesthetic look.
