Saraswati, the river goddess is the source of creation and creativity. In this oil painting, the goddess sits relaxedly on a lotus (Padmasana), in a two-armed form, strumming her Veena. The swan accompanying her symbolizes Param-Hansa, one who has attained supreme wisdom, the peacock feather in her crown is a Lekhani or pen used by great poets with her benevolence, the white and yellow of her sari signifies purity, the water is Saraswati as a river and the lotuses (a mark of beginnings and wisdom) underline her sway over these spheres.
