Goddess Lakshmi, also known as Shri, is the eternal consort and internal potency of Lord Vishnu, the maintainer and sustainer of the entire Universe. Hence, Lakshmi is associated with Sattva Guna and is always engaged in His loving service in Vaikuntha, the place of no miseries. She is revered as the Goddess of fortune and blesses her devotees with wealth and prosperity. She is also among the divine triad known as Tridevi that includes Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Parvati as well. Tridevi is given a great importance in Shaktism.
Here stands the Goddess of fortune Lakshmi attired in a perfectly pleated green saree with golden embroidery and border. Adorned with long neck pieces around her neck and a huge crown on her head, she looks as glowing as the Sun. She is depicted having four arms; each of her two upper arms carry a lotus flower, the lower right hand is in Abhaya Mudra (fear not hand gesture), and a tilted pot full of gold coins is held by her left arm.
The soft smile on her fair complexioned face shows the merciful nature towards her devotees. The offered lamps, coconuts, and the banana trees on her either side give the essence of the rich artwork of South India. Finally the embellishment of Lakshmi’s icon with pure gold coating and studded-stones give this painting an aesthetic look.
