Harikrishen is arguably India's greatest living batik artist. Here he has managed to show Kali as both terrible and beautiful. With her right leg on the chest of her recumbent husband Shiva, and the left leg on his thigh, the goddess strides, majestic and resplendent. The soft hued Shiva in light-blue contrasts with the dullness of her own violet form. Exploiting the potential of batik to the hilt, Harikrishen has used the crackle effect to surround Kali, giving the impression of the chaos, vigor, and turbulence that she is equated with.

Especially noteworthy is the high crown, studded with precious jewels and gems, similarly heavy earrings of the goddess, and the fine bracelets, armlets, and necklaces.
