A Tanjore art panel to grace the home or office space of the true devotee. A horizontally elongated canvas, marked out in five equi-sized panels. These panels are distinguished by slender, studded pillars, the glittering red stones on the bodies of the pillars resembling the finest rubies. Traditional temple archways above each panel.
The deities housed within each panel (starting from the viewer’s left) are Lord Venkateshvara, Devi Gajalakshmi, Lord Ganesha, Devi Sarasvati, and Devi Parvati. While the extremal deities are standing, Lakshmi-Ganesha-Sarasvati are seated on studded gold thrones. Each of the deities in this painting are possessed of four arms and bedecked in heavenly finery.
When it comes to the gold-layered gessowork, which is typical of Tanjore paintings, the high-precision handiwork is remarkable. The artist has paid considerable attention to line and detail, despite the scale which must have been very difficult to work with. A deep scarlet and inky midnight blue complete the vivid colour palette of this Thanjavur painting.
