A pious lady offers worship to the Lord Ganesha. She is clad in a crimson saree and gold jewellery. Hands dyed vermillion, and fresh jasmines in her hair. She makes the perfect picture of the devoted Indian sadhva.
The crushed petals of flowers cascade from her hands. At the foot of the Lord, whose only lateral profile is available to the viewer. The proportions of His eyes and elephantine ears and trunk are gigantic, occupying nearly half the surface area of the canvas.
Shades and tints of a vivid, almost orange, ochre colour dominate the palette of this painting. A crimson flower, matching the devotee’s gossamer silk saree, is on the forefron of Ganesha’s crown. An abstract, largely undefined colour background to retain focus on the twin subject of deity and devotee.
