Gaja- the mighty elephants on ancient Hindu temple structures represent a sense of grandeur, power, and royalty. In this watercolor on canvas painting, an elephant carved in a stone temple has been beautifully brought on paper, with its aesthetic surroundings which in unison transport the senses to the sacred temple spaces. Probably sculpted on the platform of a shrine, the elephant appears in a dynamic posture, pulling at a faint Makara image with its trunk. The animation of the animal and the artistic richness of the temple structure have been perfectly recreated in this artwork, in which the artist has succeeded in naturalistically capturing the different shades and textures of stone.
