A magnificent representation of the Srikshetra of Srivilliputhur Andal Temple, where Alvar saint Andal is revered as the bride of Vishnu, who resides in the shrine as Rangamannar Swami, this vintage teakwood frame Tanjore painting is a divine vision to behold. Lord Vishnu as the heavenly bridegroom is in the center of the frame, majestically adorned and worshipped by his bird mount Garuda, who stands in his zoo-anthropomorphic form, with his hands joined in Anjali mudra. On the right side of Sri Ranganatha stands Andal, adorned in a bright red saree, like a charming bride, holding a lotus in her hand.
The Mandapam for the Lord and his bride is beautifully delineated, embellished with gold and tiny gems, and with two banana trees with fruits and flowers, symbolizing virtues of auspiciousness and fertility. Witnessing this heavenliness in the topmost section of the painting are Surya and Chandra, and in the foreground are Vaishnava priests, with offerings in the lotus feet of Sri Rangamannar, the benevolent one who embraces his devotees with affection, making them one with his supreme self.
