The fair Goddess Namgyalma is the presiding deity over long life and well-being. She is a Buddha in Her own right and is the Goddess Ushnishavijaya. The thangka painting that you see on this page depicts Her with eight arms (ashtabhujadharini), one of which bears an image of Buddha Vairocana, who is an integral part of Her iconography.
It is a fine example of Tibetan art. The colour palette is predominated by deep Prussian blue and a pale gold metallic. Both hues contrast sharply with each other and the glacial complexion of Goddess Namgyalma. Superfine brushstrokes define each aspect of the composition, from the signature clouds and petals surrounding Her throne to the silken attire on Her person.
Goddess Ushnishavijaya is possessed of three faces. In this thangka painting, they are differentiated by the direction each of them faces and the distinct pastel complexion of each. The composures range from sombre to fierce to wrathful, in keeping with the Kriya Tantra school to which She belongs.
