A Nepalese painting, handpicked for the discerning buyer and collector of traditional art. A highly textured image of Ardharishvara, standing on an open-mouthed lotus under a temple entrance archway.
The canvas is fashioned from some rough-hewn fabric. Its natural ivory colour is imbued with splotches of deep ochre, indicative of the age of the work. The Ardhanarishvara image is produced using a brush/pen dipped in black ink/colour and executed using superfine curves.
To the side of Shiva, sits Nandi; while to that of Parvati, the lion. The anatomical distinctions are sharp yet blend into each other in great visual harmony. This old, minimalistic Ardhanarishvara is indeed a collector’s item.
