Six abodes of Murugan described in the ancient Sangam literature are symbolized by the sanctum icons garlanded by the divine Siddhars. The six sanctums are located in Thiruparankundaram, Thiruchendur, Palani, Swamimalai, Tiruttani, and Pazahmudircholai.
At the heart of the composition are the potent symbols- Kundalini Shakti rising within the body, Vel of Kartikeya, and Shiva Lingam nestled in coils of two serpents (a symbol of inner wisdom)- all underlining the one true goal of attainment of the supreme truth that lies within. Framed by a lacquered traditional wood frame crafted like a South Indian temple, this magnificent artwork is an example of the creative vision and heritage of the artists of Tanjore.
