Jayadevan’s mastery of violin is well evident as he plays some of the Keerthanas featuring in this Audio CD, composed by the likes of the great Thyagaraja, Swathi Thirunal, Meerabai and contemporary masters like Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna and Papanasam Sivan.
Violin is an indispensable part of the Indian music tradition, especially south Indian classical. Earlier, violin was used only as an accompaniment in the concerts. But now, there are exclusive concerts featuring violin in the lead.
A. Jayadevan
The Indian born Canadian violinist Jayadevan hails from a family of artistes. His grandfather, Abhayadev is a well-known name; both in Malayalam film and literary worlds. Jayadevan is one of the true ambassadors of traditional Indian music in Canada, who, besides Indian classical is also adept in performing fusion as well as western music.
Thiruvaarur Bakthavathsalam
The versatile mrudangam maestro was born in a family of traditional musicians in Tanjore District of Tamilnadu. He has accompanied a galaxy of musicians on mrudangam, both past and present.
Vaikom R. Gopalakrishnan
He is among the top ghatam artistes of our times. Gopalakrishnan is an 'A' Grade artiste with All India Radio and is an outstanding performer of ghatam offering performance support to prominent musicians.
